Panel 5: Sarah Ruhl
Over the past two decades, since her debut with Eurydice (2003), American playwright Sarah Ruhl has established herself as a major American writer: author of eighteen plays, an essay collection, a book of letters, two books of poetry, and a medical memoir, Smile. Eurydice has been adapted into an opera and is being revived at Signature Theatre in New York while her musical adaptation (with Elvis Costello) of A Face in the Crowd recently enjoyed a successful run at the Young Vic in London. Papers are welcomed on any aspect of Ruhl's varied career, including her teaching and influence on the next generation of playwrights. Scholars and artists working in all languages and literatures are invited to email a 250-word abstract in English to Dr. Amy Muse by 31 January 2025. Please include paper title, author's name, status (faculty, graduate student, independent scholar), institutional affiliation (if any), and postal address at top left. Those whose abstracts are selected will be expected to prepare a 15-minute presentation for a multidisciplinary audience for the CDC in London
